Softball recap (April 1): OHS, OCHS

Owensboro and Owensboro Catholic both traveled to Florida where they will play in the Florida Softball Beach Bash in Fort Walton. After losing their first game 9-4 against West Jessamine on Easter Sunday, Owensboro played two more games where they were defeated in both. Owensboro Catholic however found success in their first game against North Laurel that was sent to extra innings.

OHS

Owensboro was defeated by Henry County 6-3 in their first game. 

Hessi Johnson hit a double and had 2 RBIs off of 2 hits. Emmi Connor also hit a double along with an RBI and 1 scored run. Hayley Sikes scored 1 run as well. Railey Scott had Owensboro’s 1 strikeout on the mound.

In their second game they had a tough 10-0 defeat against Trigg County. 

At the plate, Addison Hill had 2 hits, and Alyssa Rhineburger hit a double. On the mound, Scott had 3 strikeouts. 

OCHS 6, North Laurel 3

Owensboro Catholic played North Laurel in an intense first game of the Florida Softball Beach Bash where they won 6-3 in extra innings.

The first three innings went scoreless as neither team could get the edge over the other. Catholic then broke the stalemate in the bottom of the fourth with 2 runs. The fifth inning went scoreless before OCHS added 1 more run to their lead in the sixth. North Laurel scored 3 runs in dramatic fashion in the seventh inning to send the game into extra innings. The Lady Aces shut down North Laurel in the top of the eighth before scoring 3 runs to close out the win at 6-3. 

Tyranda Stuart led at the plate with a home run, a double, 3 RBIs and 2 scored runs off of 2 hits. Hannah Robbins hit a home run as well as having an RBI. Maren Riney hit a double as her 1 RBI, and Hannah Tignor had an RBI as well. 

On the mound was Robbins who recorded 4 strikeouts and only allowed 3 hits across 8 innings.
