The Owensboro Post 9 Bombers made a statement in the opener of their Jimmy V fundraiser tournament, beating Marion Indiana Post 9 16-1. Parker Heistand, Brody Brubaker, Talon Cartwright, and Barrett Evans combined for eight hits and 12 RBIs, while Logen Thomas finished 3-5 with an RBI. Levi Rogers started on the mound, striking out five and allowing three total base runners over five shutout innings. Brady Atwell pitched in relief, allowing one run and striking out three.
“Tonight was a total team effort defensively,” Owensboro Bombers head coach Matt Freeman said. “We turned a couple of double plays on the mound. Rogers was fantastic. He was throwing his off-speed pitches in all counts. At the plate, we swing the bats extremely well. We have a quick turnaround with an 11 am game tomorrow morning against Evansville Pate, and we are looking forward to competing against a very good ball club.”
