With two runners in scoring position and only one out, a 90-minute rain delay unraveled Daviess County 12U softball’s momentum, eventually falling to Indiana in the Regional Championship, 7-4. Indiana took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, but Daviess County quickly tied it on a two-out Emma Tanner RBI single.

After the rain delay, Indiana scored five runs in the top of the third, and Daviess County never fully recovered. Trailing 7-1 entering the bottom of the sixth, Daviess County scored three runs thanks to RBI singles by Kenley Evans and Presley Roberts, while Brooklyn Zembrycki scored on an error.

Tanner finished 2-2 with an RBI, while Evans and Roberts each had an RBI. Evans started in the circle, allowing one earned run over two innings, while Michaela Knight pitched in relief. She gave up one run over four innings, striking out four.

“It was a tough day,” Daviess County 12U coach Jon Roberts said. “Indiana came out of the 90-minute rain delay ready and took advantage of some errors and free bases in the top of the third and grabbed all the momentum. Their pitching shut us down from that point. The girls never gave up and fought till the end, but it was too little too late. We are very proud of all these girls, though. It was a great run, and the first ever for District One. The girls got to experience a week-long tourney on ESPN and bunk with their buddies all week. Lots of lifetime memories and no regrets.”
