Behind a four-touchdown performance from quarterback Brady Eubanks, Hancock County powered past Breckinridge County 34-12 on Friday night at home.
Eubanks led the Hornets’ balanced rushing attack, carrying the ball 13 times for 100 yards while finding the end zone four times on the ground. He also threw for 83 yards on 6-of-13 passing, though he was intercepted twice.
Hancock jumped in front midway through the second quarter when Eubanks scored on a keeper, then added a second touchdown minutes later. The Hornets’ defense got in on the scoring late in the half, as Christian Yanez returned an interception for a touchdown to make it 21-0.
Breckinridge answered with a defensive score of its own before halftime when Joaquin Hernandez grabbed a pick-6, but the Tigers couldn’t convert the 2-point try.
The Hornets put the game out of reach early in the fourth quarter. Cooper Jones intercepted a pass to set up Eubanks’ third rushing touchdown, and the senior quarterback added a fourth score just minutes later. Paxton Dewitt capped the night with a late touchdown run for Breckinridge.
Kalab Helms led Hancock with 116 rushing yards on 11 carries, while Kyle Anderson added 75 yards on eight attempts. Jones also chipped in two carries for 43 yards and a 51-yard reception, and Hunter Greathouse hauled in two catches for 27 yards.
Head coach Bobby Eubanks said he was pleased with the offensive efficiency but noted the Hornets still have work to do.
“We had a couple turnovers that took the ball out of our hands in the first half. We left our defense on the field too long tonight,” Eubanks said. “I’m glad we’re able to run the ball efficiently and were able to put points on the board.”
He added that the Hornets will need sharper preparation moving forward.
“We have to be able to come in week-to-week and play like it’s week one,” he said. “We have to be more intentional during the week and limit distractions. I have to do a better job of getting our guys ready to play.”
