After winning their fifth straight American Legion State Tournament, the Owensboro Post 9 Bombers season has ended after losing in the Regional Tournament. They dropped their opening game to Florida 10-0, before being eliminated by North Carolina 7-2.

Against Florida, the Bombers offense was stifled, with Parker Heistand having the teams lone hit, while Easton Blandford and Talon Cartwright combined to draw three walks. Reed Sherrard started on the mound, while Will Rickard and Colton Carver both pitched in relief.

In their second game, North Carolina took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, but the Bombers immediately responded when Brody Brubaker singled to drive in a pair. North Carolina tied the game in the fourth, jumped ahead 3-2 in the fifth, and added four insurance runs in the seventh.

Carver and Heistand combined for four of the teams eight hits, while Brubaker finished 1-3 with two RBIs. Carter Kimmel started on the mound, allowing one earned run over 4 2/3 innings, while Logen Rogers and Luke Quinn both pitched in relief.

“The talent in the ALB Southeast Regional is top shelf,” Owensboro Bombers head coach Matt Freeman said. “Our kids played hard today, but ultimately we lost to a better team. I’m very proud of the way these young men represented James L. Yates Post 9 and the city of Owensboro.”
