In a pair of 9th district matches, Owensboro and Owensboro Catholic both emerged victorious, while Trinity (Whitesville) beat Hancock County. In other action, McLean County fell to Ohio County.
Owensboro 3, Apollo 0
Ayrish Barksdale finished with 18 kills and 11 digs in the Lady Devils’ 3-0 (26-24, 25-21, 25-20) win over Apollo. June Larsen had 17 digs, two service aces, and one kill, while Anna Travis recorded 26 assists, 11 digs, four service aces, three blocks, and one kill.
“Tonight, the girls came ready to play,” Owensboro Head Coach Mitchell Johnson said. “Our energy stayed high from the players on the court to the players sitting on the bench. Apollo is a very strong team, and they applied plenty of pressure on us from the service line. We have been practicing on limiting errors and still staying aggressive, and that’s what we were able to do tonight.”
For Apollo, Avery Gray had a team-high 15 kills and 14 digs, while Jessicaa Lee recorded 14 assists, three blocks and two kills, Maddi Roberts added 11 assists and seven digs, and Keelan Wettstain had 12 digs and seven kills.
Owensboro Catholic 3, Daviess County 0
Addie Oller recorded a game-high 16 kills and added four digs, two service aces, and one block in the Lady Aces’ 3-0 (25-17, 25-14, 25-18) win over Daviess County. Emma Castlen had 11 blocks, five kills, three digs, and two service aces, while Molly Arnold posted 20 digs and added a service ace.
For the Lady Panthers, Lexi Jones had recorded 29 digs, one assist, and one kill, while Zoe Raymond had 13 digs. Haylee Clark posted nine kills, seven digs, and two blocks, and Jenna Lawson had seven assists and five digs.
Trinity (Whitesville) 3, Hancock County 0
Emerson Edge recorded 12 assists, five digs, two service aces, and one kill in the Lady Raiders’ 3-0 (25-17, 25-4, 25-15) win over Hancock County. Lilly Goetz finished with a team-high seven kills, while Laney Mills had 13 digs, two assists, and one service ace.
“We played solid all night, and we were able to jump on them,” Trinity (Whitesville) Head Coach Adam Huff said. “We were able to keep being the aggressor, which was the difference. This is the effort we have been looking for and hope to gather some momentum for the final weeks of the season.”
Ohio County 3, McLean County 0
Annie Shelton recorded a team-high 18 digs and seven kills in the Lady Cougars’ 3-0 (21-25, 18-25, 21-25) loss to Ohio County. Abbi Shivers finished with 17 digs and one service ace, while Hadlie Coursey had nine assists, seven digs, and one service ace.
“The girls played amazing,” McLean County Head Coach Traci Capps said. “We were in it ever set, but we just finished a bit to finish. I am so proud of their play tonight. We are improving with every game that we play.”
