Finding themselves trailing 32-28 after leading for the entire game, Apollo didn’t blink. They scored three times over the remaining five minutes and 39 seconds to snap Madisonville-North Hopkins’s undefeated streak, winning 49-40.

Apollo jumped out to a 14-0 lead after Johnson threw a touchdown to Landen Bratcher and then a few minutes later ran it in from nine yards out. The Maroons scored to cut the lead to 14-7, but the Eagles quickly responded, with Johnson throwing his second touchdown of the night, this time to Eli Williams.

Leading 21-10 entering the third quarter, Ross Milburn flashed his athleticism, picking off Alex Richards and taking it to the house. The Maroons responded by scoring 22 unanswered points to go ahead 32-28 with 5:39 left in the game.

Unfazed, Johnson led the Eagles on a game-winning drive – finding Ehmadjai Badger for the 35-32 lead. Riding the momentum, the Eagles forced a fumble on the ensuing kickoff, culminating in Milburn punching it in from two yards out. Less than a minute later, Ryleigh Logan came away with a pick six of his own to push the lead to 49-32.

The Maroons scored once more with just under 90 seconds left, but the Eagles were able to close it out.

Now sitting at 4-4, the Eagles are once again on the road next Friday, this time against Marshall County.
