When Kennedy Lane arrived at Daviess County as a sophomore three years ago, it was nearly impossible to predict the impact she would have on the Lady Panthers basketball program. As a junior, she evolved from a pure scorer to one of the most dominant guards in the 3rd Region – leading the program to its first-ever 3rd Region Championship.
A year later, she and the Lady Panthers erased a 16-point fourth quarter deficit en route to a 9th District Championship title and a second consecutive 3rd Region Championship appearance.
Now, the program’s all-time leading scorer has a new challenge on the horizon – the collegiate level. On Friday, she put ink to paper, signing her college commitment letter to play for Georgetown College.
“It’s truly a blessing. I worked really hard for this,” Lane said. “When I transferred, I set goals for myself, and I accomplished a lot of them. It really means a lot.”
A self-proclaimed homebody, Lane was focused on staying in Kentucky and spoke with multiple schools, but was won over by how Georgetown made her feel wanted.
“It just felt like a great fit to me. Georgetown stuck with me since the summer and never stopped reaching out,” Lane said. “They just showed a lot of effort, showed that they really wanted me, and it’s not too far from home. …I had a great visit. The community and the environment are super pretty down there. It’s just perfect.”
Dating back to her time at Apollo High School, Lane always had aspirations to compete at the collegiate level, but it was when she erupted for 26 points during the 2025 3rd Region Championship that her path to the next level became clear.
After her junior year, she spent the offseason improving her conditioning to prepare for being face-guarded. With a few months before she steps onto Georgetown’s campus, Lane is awaiting her playbook, but has plans to focus on becoming more well-rounded on defense.
