A night after striking out 14 against Grayson County, Ella Morris continued her torrid stretch in the circle, striking out 10 Lady Cats to power Trinity (Whitesville) to a 2-1 win and a second consecutive 12th District Championship.
The Lady Raiders had an opportunity in the bottom of the second to break the scoreless tie, but ended up stranding a pair of runners. Trinity finally broke through in the fourth when Emersyn Beyke doubled home Anna Beyke. With runners on second and third, Edmonson County’s Emma Price recorded back-to-back strikeouts to limit the damage.
The Lady Cats tied the game in the top of the fifth on a Lady Raiders fielding error. Unfazed, Trinity took a 2-1 lead in the sixth when Aubree McKinney scored on a ground ball. It took Morris only 10 pitches in the seventh to close out the game and retire the side.
“I am incredibly proud of the grit our girls showed tonight,” Trinity (Whitesville) Head Coach Jessica Morris said. “Ella Morris was outstanding in the circle, collecting 10 strikeouts. Offensively, Aubree McKinney and Michaela Knight did a great job, and Emersyn Beyke and Sophia Miller came through with the timely hits. I am proud of the resiliency they showed to earn the win in the end.”
