Several local high school wrestlers picked up wins in the first and second rounds Friday during the opening day of the Region 2 Tournament at Taylor County.
The winners’ bracket for each weight class is down to the final four wrestlers, meaning a single win would automatically qualify an individual to advance to the state tournament. A loss would drop the wrestler into the consolation bracket with those who lost in rounds one and two.
Wrestling resumes Saturday, and the top four finishers in each weight class will advance from the region tournament into the state tournament. The fifth-place wrestler will serve as an alternate.
Apollo, Daviess County, Owensboro and Trinity all have wrestlers still in contention to advance to the 2019 State Wrestling Championships on Feb. 15-16 at Alltech Arena inside the Kentucky Horse Park.
