RWRA proposing potential rate increase in coming years

The Regional Water Resource Agency is proposing a few rate increases per month raise in rates that will potentially go into effect in July 2023 and then again over the next three years.

At the meeting Friday, the Commission approved the raise to help fund the upgrades to their wastewater treatment plans. The first rate increase will be $9.98 per month starting in July 2023.

The next raises will begin in July 2024 with a $4 increase, a $3 increase in July 2025, a $3 increase in July 2026 and a final $2 raise in 2027, which will help fund daily operations.

RWRA was opened to public comment over a 30-day period however received no comment from the public. They did receive 11 calls from the public asking questions and wanting to learn more about the raises but no comments were collected.

Likewise, on the subsequent raises, they did not have any public comment or any calls regarding them.

There will be a rate increase for the wastewater user charge proposed as well. In 2023 there will be zero increase however in 2023 it goes up 30 cents; in 2024 it would go up 20 cents; and 10 cents in 2026 and 2027 per 1000 gallons each year.

While the commission did approve this, before the rates go into effect it must pass at the Rate Review Board which consists of the City Commissioners, County Commissioners, the Mayor and the Judge-Executive.

The meeting will occur next Thursday and a decision will be made then. RWRA expects the bill to increase on average by about $10 in 2024.
