After 5 years on staff, Dylan Evans is now the Public Information Officer for the Owensboro Police Department.
Evans, an Owensboro native, said he started working with the department in 2017 as a patrol officer on the second shift; however, he has a history in public relations.
Though he has a degree in broadcasting from Western Kentucky University, Evans said he wanted to be a part of the police department — and now he is merging both passions with his new position.
“That’s one of the reasons I wanted to get into this field and in this career is to make a difference in someone’s life. I think that’s why we all got into this career path,” Evans said.
He aims to showcase the department’s highlights to the community through this position — whether that means being in the crowds at different events, posting updates on Facebook, or working with media partners.
Evans said highlights could mean “getting guns off the street; getting methamphetamine, fentanyl, any type of drug off the street; or showcasing the good work that our detectives do on maybe solving a string of burglaries or string of car break-ins or heaven forbid a murder. Just showcasing that good work that our patrol officers and that our detectives do on a daily basis that people might not see.”
Evans said that being from Owensboro and serving the city has shown him a rewarding side to the work he does, and he wants to continue to build that bridge between the department and the citizens.
“[That trust] is key on so many levels,” Evans said. “We work for this community. We are accountable to the citizens of Owensboro. As a department, we have to assist our community.”
