Owensboro is one of four cities set to be featured in an upcoming independent docuseries by GoUSA TV, a national entertainment channel. The show is dissecting each city’s history and culture through the lens of music to promote tourism.
Producer Cat Miguez said the show — which is still untitled — his hosted by the British DJ duo Chunz X Makh. The two learn about the influence of music in each community, immersing themselves in the city’s culture during the filming process.
The crew has been hitting some of the top tourist destinations while in Owensboro. They toured the Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame & Museum and Green River Distillery, tasted mutton at Old Hickory Bar-B-Q, and explored the Western Kentucky Botanical Garden. They also learned how to play the mandolin and experienced Friday After 5.
“We have two hosts from the UK that are kind of like a fish out of water,” Miguez said. “They never been to any of these cities in America. So the audience kind of follows them and kind of can relate to them in a way where whatever they learn, the audience learns.”
In addition to Owensboro, the show explores St. Louis, Missouri; Lafayette, Louisiana; and Asheville, North Carolina.
“I think what makes our series unique is that it allows a more intimate view into these ‘smaller’ towns,” Miguez said. “Especially when you have our hosts who are from the UK, so you can’t get more foreign than that.”
Miguez said the show will be seen primarily on the GoUSA TV app and online. So far, there isn’t a timeline on when production will wrap or when the show will be able to stream.
Visit Owensboro Mark Calitri said this show is great chance to put Owensboro on the map nationally and internationally.
“Visit Owensboro is continuing to level up as an organization and create transformational opportunity for our community,” Calitri said.
Visit Owensboro Destination Manager Dave Kirk echoed those feelings.
“We’ve been trying to tell Owensboro’s story, we’ve been trying to emphasize we have something special here,” Kirk said. “Now the rest of the world is literally going to see that with what they’re doing here.”
