King’s Table and First Christian Church have been chosen as this year’s co-recipients for the 2023 Empty Bowls fundraiser. Tickets go on sale later this month, and the fundraiser dinner/silent auction will take place on October 26.
The event will be held from 6-8 p.m. in the lobby of the RiverPark Center (101 Daviess Street).
“The main initiative of King’s Table revolves around providing meals to senior citizens and individuals with physical disabilities who are confined to their homes in the larger Owensboro region,” according to a release from Empty Bowls. “They plan to expand their reach to a greater number of seniors. This expansion includes enhancing their provision of diabetic-friendly and senior-specific food options. Additionally, they have plans to acquire extra freezer space to accommodate their growing efforts.”
First Christian Church’s food ministry oversees six programs to combat hunger in the community. Per the release, those programs are:
- A food pantry that is open 4 days a week.
- A refugee food pantry that is open twice a month feeding 15 refugee families.
- The Germantown Blessing box pantry, which stocks food twice daily, 7 days a week.
- Christmas baskets in coordination with the Salvation Army.
- The backpack ministry which feeds 65 children at Cravens Elementary School throughout the entire school year.
- Community gardens, which consist of 36 garden plots to grow fruit, vegetables, and herbs.
Only 350 tickets will be available for the Empty Bowls event. They go on sale August 28 and cost $20; they can be purchased by visiting eboky.org/tickets. Any remaining tickets that do not pre-sale will be made available at the door the evening of the event.
The $20 ticket allows attendees to select a ceramic bowl from hundreds of handcrafted bowls made specifically for this event by local artisans, community members, and students at Brescia University. Each participant at the event will receive one of the numerous soups made available by local restaurants, chefs, and churches.
As in years past, a silent auction will also be held. Any person or organization wishing to donate an item or basket is encouraged to reach out to the committee by email at [email protected]. All donations to Empty Bowls are tax-deductible.
The committee is also still looking for sponsorships. Sponsorship tiers are available from $250 and up. Information and an online registration form can be found by visiting eboky.org/sponsors.
