The Owensboro High School football team jumped out to an early lead at Rash Stadium and never looked back, incinerating Marshall County 50-0 on Friday night. After forcing a three-and-out on the opening drive, the Red Devils took over and began scoring in droves.

Owensboro (4-3, 3-0 district) used an aggressive yet balanced attack to keep Marshall County (2-5, 1-2 district) on their heels for most of the evening. The Red Devils’ attack mentality also carried over to the defense, rarely allowing the Marshals to enter their territory, and when they did, it was short-lived.

“That’s how you want to come out and execute. We knew we just needed to come out and execute and take care of business,” said head coach Jay Fallin. “We had a great week of practice. I think the first few weeks of the season humbled us and forced us to stay focused at practice. I kept telling them when we were 1-3 that we were going to be just fine.”

Junior quarterback Trevor Delacey connected with Chadyn Morris on the opening drive for a 47-yard touchdown. After a quick three-and-out, Evan Hampton rushed 15 yards to the outside for a touchdown.

The stops and scores then remained on repeat, with Owensboro rarely touting a possession without a score. They didn’t have to throw it much, but when they did, it was efficient.

“They scored zero points, so we didn’t have to throw it a bunch, but when we did, we were efficient, and our screen game was good,” he said. “We did what we needed to do. Now, we’ll get ready for a big week of practice and another game heading into fall break.”

Hampton was in full control all evening, tallying his second touchdown on a 28-yard touchdown up the middle, breaking several tackles while en route. The Red Devils then recovered a pooch kick and marched down the field to set up a 13-yard touchdown reception for Blake Kimbrell.

Then, it was Hampton getting on the scoreboard again, this time a 45-yard run down the sideline, making it 36-0 after a successful 2-point conversion. After forcing a turnover on downs, Chaydn Morris reeled in a 71-yard touchdown with time expiring in the half.

It was slow-moving coming out of the half until Javion Robinson broke loose for a 34-yard run with 5:50 left in the third quarter to set up a 13-yard sweep to the right for a touchdown for Dereon Crowe to make it 50-0.

Delacey touted 239 yards and 3 touchdowns on 11 of 13 throwing. Hampton tied the game-high three touchdowns with 144 yards on the ground on 11 attempts. Crowe added 59 yards rushing with one touchdown, while Morris dominated the air game with 171 yards and two touchdowns on five receptions.

Fallin said his squad has been practicing since July 10, so after next Thursday’s match-up against Muhlenberg County, they’ll look to enjoy the first five days of fall break away from the gridiron.

“Fall break is always nice because we place a lot of demands on these guys, and it’s been a grind,” Fallin said. “We’ll give them five straight days off, and then we have to come out to prepare for Madisonville.”
