Tennis courts in Owensboro will be full of action October 20-22 as the city hosts the United States Tennis Association (USTA) Adult Combo League State Championships. The event is drawing more than 400 adult tennis players from around the state.
The Combo League format features two players of different levels playing against an opposing doubles team of the same two levels. Three doubles courts equal a team match, and teams consist of 8-10 players. There are six teams from Owensboro.
Owensboro was awarded the bid to host the event earlier this year. The local organizing committee consists of the Owensboro-Daviess County Tennis Association, the City of Owensboro Parks & Recreation Department, and the Owensboro-Daviess County Visitors Bureau.
Matches begin Friday morning at 8 a.m. and continue all day Friday and Saturday, with the event concluding on Sunday morning. Matches are scheduled at the Owensboro Tennis Complex and the Moreland Park Tennis Center. Warm-ups and team practices will be at Kentucky Wesleyan courts.
