It was a slow start but Apollo pulled away late to earn a 30-13 road win over Marshall County to snap a 3-game losing skid on Friday.

Neither team could get anything going in a scoreless first quarter.

It was finally the Eagles (2-7) that struck first when Max Johnson hit Landon Bratcher for a 45-yard touchdown with 9:17 left in the half. A few minutes later, Johnson found Niles Board for a 15-yard score and a 14-0 lead.

The Marshals then had their biggest play of the game with a 60-yard touchdown to cut the deficit 1o 14-7 just before the half.

MC nearly tied it with a touchdown in the third quarter but the PAT was no good, and the 14-13 lead for Apollo lasted through the start of the fourth quarter.

The Eagles finally distanced themselves in the final frame. Niles Board scored from 2 yards out, then Hunter Anderson recorded a sack for a safety to put Apollo up 23-13. The added one more touchdown, this one a 15-yard pass from Johnson to Bratcher, for the final score with 6:09 to play.

The Eagles will round out the regular season at home next Friday when they play crosstown foe Daviess County.
