DCHS marching band places 3rd in Class 4A state championships, OCHS takes 6th in Class 1A

The Daviess County Band of Pride took 3rd place in the KMEA 4A state marching band championships in Bowling Green on Saturday. The Owensboro Catholic Marching Aces finished 6th in Class 1A.

Twelve bands in each of the five classifications advanced to the semifinals, which were held at multiple venues across Bowling Green on Saturday morning. The top six scorers advanced to the finals, held at Western Kentucky University’s Houchens Industries-L.T. Smith Stadium that evening.

DCHS placed 3rd in the semifinals of Class 4A with an overall score of 86.6, behind Anderson County (87.4) and Bourbon County (87.25). The Band of Pride actually had the highest score in music performance but was 4th in visual performance and 5th in general effect.

The finals went much the same way for DCHS. They placed 3rd with an overall score of 85.95, behind champion Bourbon County (88.5) and runner-up Anderson County (88.35). DCHS again had the highest score in music performance but was 4th in general effect and 6th in visual performance.

OCHS placed 6th in the semifinals of Class 1A with an overall score of 81.2. The March Aces placed 3rd in music performance, 5th in visual performance, and 7th in general effect.

Catholic similarly finished 6th in the finals with an overall score of 80.3, placing 5th in both music performance and general effect and 6th in visual performance. Washington County placed 1st in Class 1A, narrowly defeating Mayfield.
