Apollo’s football season came to an end Friday night, as the Eagles couldn’t get much going in a 48-6 loss at Bowling Green in the first round of the Class 5A state playoffs.
The lone touchdown for Apollo (2-9) came late in the third quarter when JT Edge hit Landen Bratcher for a 15-yard score, but it only cut the deficit to 48-6.
Bowling Green (8-3) got on the board early in the first quarter with a 38-yard punt return to the end zone. They added touchdown runs of 6 and 2 yards to push their lead to 21-0 late in the first quarter.
It was more of the same in the second quarter, and a running clock began when BG went up 41-0 with 6:49 left in the quarter. The Purples pushed the lead to 48-0 by halftime.
Apollo’s season ends with the loss, while Bowling Green will host Graves County next week in the second round.
