The City’s 4th of July event will once again combine the annual celebration on the riverfront with three additional fireworks locations throughout the city. The event will also feature live music on the riverfront before the fireworks show, while the Convention Center is offering activities inside throughout the evening.

The celebration will get started in Smothers Park along the downtown riverfront at 5 p.m. on July 4.  Live music will begin at Flat Stanley at 5, followed by The Downtown Band at 7.

At 9:15 p.m., the 15-minute fireworks show will be launched from barges on the Ohio River, Southern Little League fields, Owensboro Sportscenter/Moreland Park, and Owensboro Warehouse Leasing (former GE plant).

Spectators can tune in to 92.5 FM WBKR to listen to the soundtrack to which the fireworks have been choreographed.

For the safety of the public and the pyrotechnic professionals, the secure fireworks launch sites throughout the city will not be open to the public. People attempting to watch from the launch sites will cause the fireworks at that location to be halted.

The Owensboro Convention Center is also hosting its annual 4th Fest celebration today, offering family-friendly activities and prime riverfront views for the city’s fireworks show.

The event will feature inflatables, a rock wall, spider climb, axe throwing, a pirate ship, and the Extreme Chaos Obstacle Course inside the Convention Center’s exhibit halls, with free access to those activities from 6-9 p.m. For those wanting early access, ticketed entry will be available from 5-6 p.m. for $10 per person. Some inflatables require a signed waiver.

Food will also be available for purchase, including hamburgers, hot dogs, jumbo Bavarian pretzels, cotton candy, Dippin’ Dots, and more.
