Families will have a chance to trick-or-treat in a unique setting this fall, collecting candy while walking among static aircraft during “Treats on the Tarmac.” The new Halloween event will debut at the Owensboro-Daviess County Regional Airport on October 28.

The event is scheduled to run from 4-6:30 p.m., and organizers hope the event will not only provide Halloween fun but also introduce more people to the airport itself.

“We knew we weren’t going to be having an air show this year, and we were trying to find another way to engage the community,” said Airport Director Tristan Durbin. “Trick-or-treating events have gotten really popular, and we thought, ‘Why not try to do a little static show out on the tarmac and let pilots or aircraft owners hand out candy?’”

Durbin said the airport has already lined up more than 10 aircraft for the event, and more could join. He added that while many of the specifics are still being finalized, the format will be a walk-through event where kids and families can visit each aircraft, meet the owners, and collect candy.

“We’re still early in the planning process, but we’ve already gotten a great response from local and even surrounding airport tenants,” Durbin said. “We’ll be sharing more details as we get closer, including parking and entry info. Our goal is to make sure we’re prepared for however many people plan to attend.”

Durbin encouraged the public to mark their calendars and follow the airport’s social media for updates. The event will be free to attend.
