Girls Soccer Roundup: September 29

It was a positive night for the local schools as Daviess County, McLean County, and Owensboro Catholic all won.

Daviess County 3, South Warren 2

In front of a packed home crowd on senior night, Molly Floyd scored twice to lead the Lady Panthers past South Warren 3-2. Maru Evelyn Wiman also scored and added an assist, while Kaelin Labhart finished with five saves in goal.

“We celebrated our eight seniors tonight, and they really stepped up for us,” Daviess County Head Coach Paige Crisp said. “We fell behind 1-0 in the second half, but we fought back to stay in the game and eventually pulled out the win. I thought we played tough and gave a fantastic effort. I’m really proud of everyone, especially this group of seniors who have meant so much to our program for so long.”

McLean County 8, Union County 0

Landry Humphrey scored four goals and added two assists, and Ana Olivera recorded a hat trick of her own and tallied an assist in the Lady Cougars’ 8-0 win over Union County. Lily Miller also scored, and Hannah Smith had one assist, while Haley Louden finished with one save in net.

“We are now 9-7-2 on the season,” McLean County Head Coach Ricky Humphrey said. “The team played extremely well tonight. We have a quick turnaround as we play at Webster County tomorrow night. The goal this week is to finish the season strong.”

Owensboro Catholic 5, Ohio County 0

Allie Martson scored a hat trick and added an assist, and Felicity Payne recorded five saves in net in the Lady Aces’ 5-0 win over Ohio County. Chloe Marston and Jenna Brey both scored, while Ireland Quinn and Amara Ward tallied assists. For Allie Marston, she has now tied the school’s record for goals in a season with 45.

“Our girls played great tonight. We started out the game a little slow. but as the game went on, we really focused on our possession & formation,” Owensboro Catholic Head Coach Meg Patton said. “We were able to move up the field & create combinations in the midfield that created several opportunities for our wings & forwards.”
