A community march and celebration highlighting unity, youth involvement, and human rights will take place on Monday in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
The event is being put on by the Owensboro Human Relations Commission. Participants will gather at 8 a.m. in the north parking lot of Owensboro High School, with the ceremonial march beginning at 8:30 a.m. The march will conclude at Brescia University’s Duffy Auditorium, where a program is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.
This year’s theme, “Strength in Unity: Human Rights in the Present,” focuses on collective action and its role in addressing modern challenges. Organizers said the event will spotlight participation from students representing local schools, colleges, and universities.
Dr. Roger Cleveland, President of Millennium Learning Concepts, will serve as the featured speaker.
Additional program participants include a combined choir from Kentucky Wesleyan College and Brescia University, soloist Mrs. Londun Randolph, Evangelist Michael Johnson (President of the Owensboro NAACP Branch 3107), and OHRC Board Member Khaibar Shafaq.
Proceeds collected during the program will benefit OASIS Shelter, Inc. More information is available at the OHRC website.
