Lady Aces 2nd; Lady Hornets 4th at Class 1A Region 2 meet

Traveling to Campbellsville for the Class 1A Region 2 track meet, Owensboro Catholic’s girls’ team placed second overall, while Hancock County was right behind them in fourth. Both schools will be sending multiple athletes from both their boys’ and girls’ teams to the upcoming State Championships in two weeks.

HCHS: The Lady Hornets finished fourth overall with 55 points, while the Hornets placed fifth in the boys’ competition. In the relays, the boys’ team placed third in the 4x800m, fourth in the 4x400m, fifth in the 4x200m, and sixth in the 4×100, while the girls’ team was fourth in the 4x400m and sixth in the 4x800m.

“As teams, our boys and girls both exceeded my expectations,” Hancock County Head Coach Wes Meserve said. “We came away with individual champions in four events for the girls’ team, a runner-up, and 2 relays are going to state.  I was very pleased with how they did.”

The top finishers for Hancock County included:

  • Carolina Jones: 1st in 100m hurdles, 1st in 300m hurdles, 2nd in high jump
  • Isabella Ross: 1st in long jump, 1st in triple jump
  • Cooper Jones: 2nd in 400m, 6th in 200m
  • Camdyn Harper: 2nd in shot put, 2nd in discus
  • Emmitt Meserve 2nd in 800m, 4th in 1600m
  • Ellen Meserve 4th in 400m

MCHS: A young roster, McLean County held their own as they set multiple personal records. In the relays, the Lady Cougars finished 7th in the 4x400m, 10th in the 4x100m, and 11th in the 4x200m, while the boys were8th in the 4x800m, 10th in the 4x100m and 4×400, and 11th in the 4x200m.

“We had a number of personal records yesterday,” McLean County Head Coach Gary Morris said. “Our kids worked hard and did a great job yesterday.  I am proud of their efforts at Regionals. If this group sticks together and keeps working, they have great things to look forward to.”

The top finishers for McLean County included:

  • Ragan Brown: 7th in shot put, 10th in discus
  • Haylie Billerbeck 10th in 300m hurdles
  • Jackson Galloway: 10th in high jump, 19th in long jump
  • Will Saunders: 11th in 1600m
  • Will Searcy: 14th in 100m

OCHS: The Lady Aces finished second overall, just 17 points behind first-place Green County, and the Aces placed fourth, just two points back of Bethlehem. The Lady Aces took first in the 4x800m relay, second in the 4x400m and 4x100m relays, and third in the 4x200m relay, while the Aces were fourth in the 4x200m and 4x100m relays, fifth in the 4x800m relay, and eighth in the 4x400m relay.

The top finishers for Owensboro Catholic included:

  • Peyton Reid: 1st in 1600m
  • Anna Booker: 1st in 400m
  • Charlie Reid: 1st in 800m, 2nd in 1600m
  • Ainsley Sutter: 1st in 3200m
  • Owen Brey: 2nd in 1600m, 4th in 800m
  • Isabeth Osborne: 2nd in 400m
  • Cameron Woodward: 2nd in triple jump
  • Joshua James: 3rd in triple jump
  • Allie Martson: 3rd in 100m, 3rd in 200m
  • Ashlie Hayden: 3rd in 3200m
  • ZJ McDole: 3rd in pole vault
  • Everett McDole: 4th in pole vault
  • Houston Lynn: 4th in high jump
  • Russ Boarman: 4th in 100m

THS: The Lady Raiders placed 13th overall, just six points back of Bethlehem and five points behind Cumberland County. The Raiders finished 10th in the 4x200m relay and 11th in the 4x100m relay, while the girls were seventh in the 4x200m relay. Eighth grader Aubree McKinney, who finished fifth in the girls long jump, qualified for the Middle School State Tournament.

The top finishers for Trinity (Whitesville) included:

  • Aubree McKinney: 5th in long jump, 10th in 100m, 10th in 200m
  • Adelin Keller: 8th in triple jump
  • Finn Williams: 8th in shot put, 16th in discus
  • Jayda Meserve: 9th in 400m, 12th in 200m
  • Levi Hall: 10th in triple jump
  • Tristen Ward: 10th in 110m hurdles
  • John Hamilton: 11th in 110m hurdles, 12th in 300m hurdles
