A Daviess County woman is facing multiple charges after leading deputies on a brief vehicle and foot pursuit Monday night following a traffic stop, authorities say.

According to the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office, Tonya L. Baize, 50, of the 700 block of Greenbriar Street, was arrested after a deputy attempted to stop her around 9:42 p.m. Monday when he observed her run a stop sign at the intersection of Worthington and West 5th Street roads.

Authorities said Baize continued a short distance with the deputy behind her with his emergency equipment activated before she stopped on West 5th Street Road. While speaking with Baize, the deputy observed signs of possible impairment, including bloodshot eyes and constricted pupils, according to a release. Baize reportedly told the deputy she did not have identification with her.

As the deputy returned to his patrol vehicle to conduct a records check, Baize accelerated away, prompting a pursuit, the release says.

According to the sheriff’s office, she drove east on West 5th Street Road toward Owensboro before turning north onto Greenbriar Street, where she stopped in the 700 block.

Baize then exited the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot, authorities said. Deputies caught up with her in the front yard of a residence that was later identified as her home. The sheriff’s office said she resisted arrest before being taken into custody.

She was transported to Owensboro Health Regional Hospital for treatment of minor injuries sustained during the arrest and for an evidentiary blood draw as part of the impaired driving investigation.

According to the sheriff’s office, Baize admitted to smoking methamphetamine earlier in the day. After being released from the hospital, she was lodged in the Daviess County Detention Center. Deputies also located her driver’s license during a search following her arrest.

DCSO said Baize was charged with:

  • First-degree fleeing or evading police (motor vehicle)
  • Disregarding a stop sign
  • Operating a motor vehicle under the influence — third offense (aggravated)
  • Reckless driving
  • Failure to produce an insurance card
  • Resisting arrest
  • Probation violation (felony warrant)
