Mangkok Filipino Cuisine joined the Owensboro Regional Farmers’ Market for the 2026 season, serving authentic Filipino dishes that reflect the cultural heritage of owners Jerome and Diovy Hernandez. Operated by the couple, the food truck blends Chinese, Hispanic, hibachi, and Filipino influences to create diverse meals for the community.
“We call ourselves the four nations on wheels,” Jerome said.
Although Mangkok Filipino Cuisine began in 2025, the Hernandezes’ love for cooking began nearly two decades earlier. A move from the Philippines to the United States in 2007 ignited the couple’s passion for Filipino cuisine and later inspired them to create a traveling food truck business.
This summer marks the food truck’s first year as a vendor with the market. After shopping as a customer, Jerome recognized the market as an ideal place to share their savory cuisine. A vendor space around fresh produce and local ingredients offered a venue where the Hernandezes could not only shop for ingredients but continue the authentic identity of their food truck business.
Jerome said that since the business joined the market, Mangkok Filipino Cuisine has gained broader exposure and increased sales. He noted his favorite part of the market community is the bonds built with shoppers and fellow entrepreneurs.
“If it wasn’t for them, we wouldn’t be here,” Jerome Hernandez said.
The Hernandezes began selling meals from a Walmart parking lot located at 3151 Leitchfield Road in March of 2025 before expanding throughout the region. Success at the Owensboro Multicultural Festival pushed the business towards further development. Today, Mangkok Filipino Cuisine shares traditional dishes with customers across Owensboro, Evansville, Madisonville, and Beaver Dam, as the area’s only Filipino food truck.
“I don’t have any competition here in Owensboro,” Jerome said. “That’s a really great advantage for my business.”
Jerome said the business often remains near West ZParrish Avenue every Saturday and occasionally takes part in pop-up dinners at Street Eats and Treats.
“It’s a unique experience,” he said. “There’s nothing in Owensboro like what we have.”
The business provides a range of traditional meals, allowing customers to engage with new heritages through unique foods. The menu offers pansit, pork adobo, wings, turrón, and more. Customer favorites include lumpia and barbeque skewers.
“I want to say thanks to all of the Owensboro people across the county,” said Jerome Hernandez. “We really appreciate all the love and support they have given to us.”
