A 32-year-old woman suffered life-threatening injuries after a shooting early Sunday morning in the 1100 block of West 9th Street, and a female juvenile has been charged in connection with the incident, according to the Owensboro Police Department.

Police said officers were monitoring a “large gathering” at a business in the area when they heard a gunshot at approximately 1:36 a.m. Officers then saw the crowd disperse and located the victim in the parking lot with a life-threatening injury, according to OPD. She was transported to a local hospital.

While securing the scene, officers heard additional gunshots nearby, but no other victims were located, officials said.

Investigators collected evidence and interviewed witnesses before later detaining a female juvenile suspect.

OPD said the juvenile has been charged with first-degree assault, second-degree assault, possession of a handgun by a minor (first offense), receiving stolen property (firearm), and tampering with physical evidence. She was transported to a juvenile detention center.

The investigation remains ongoing. OPD thanked the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office for assisting with the investigation and said additional information will be released as it becomes available.
