Coty N. Hollingsworth, a 26-year-old Owensboro man, is facing multiple charges including trafficking in a handful of different drugs after he allegedly assaulted and choked a female victim Sunday night, according to the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office.
According to a release, DCSO was dispatched at approximately 7:39 p.m. to an assault which occurred at a residence in the 6800 block of KY 2830. A female reported being assaulted and choked by a male — later identified as Hollingsworth — with which she was in a relationship.
During the assault, a struggle ensued over a firearm that the female was holding for protection, according to reports. During the struggle, the firearm unintentionally discharged, grazing Hollingsworth in the leg.
Hollingsworth left the residence in a vehicle but was stopped a short time later in the 3300 block of KY 144 by a Kentucky State Police trooper.
According to reports, a firearm was observed in plain view in the vehicle and a DCSO K-9 was alerted on the vehicle. Suspected meth, suspected cocaine, suspected LSD, pills, suspected marijuana, and $7,458 in U.S. currency was located in the vehicle, indicative of a drug trafficking operation.
