The suspect from a police-involved shooting incident on Monday was captured in Florida today by Broward County Sheriff’s deputies, according to the Kentucky State Police.
Sandy “Slim” Thompson was involved in the incident that took place at Wingfield Inn & Suites but fled the scene.
KSP and Owensboro Police Department on Monday received a complaint of a stolen vehicle in the parking lot of the Wingfield hotel, King said at the time. Some of KSP’s Drug Enforcement Special Investigation group as well as OPD’s Street Crimes Unit arrived to make contact with who had possession of the vehicle.
King said officers went to the second floor to the room of the known suspect, later identified as Thompson. According to King, when officers made contact Thompson brandished a pistol at the officers.
“The officers fired several times, however never struck Sandy Thompson to our knowledge,” King said. “Once the contact was made, the door was shut and he bailed out the second story window where he ran on foot, last seen heading eastbound off Parrish and ultimately cutting across through some subdivisions and apartment complexes going towards the airport.”
On Monday, King said it was unknown whether Thompson fired his weapon.
