Nicholas Goetz, an Owensboro native and local attorney, on Wednesday announced his candidacy for Daviess County Attorney.
Goetz said he is running to make the attorney’s office more efficient and more accessible, as he said he’s heard of concerns from Owensboro citizens who’ve had issues reaching and following up with the office in the past.
“Our tax dollars fund the county attorney’s office and people rely on its services,” Goetz said. “I’ve always believed in being a good steward of public money, so one of my top priorities is going to be accessibility. If I’m elected, every call will be returned, every email will be responded to, and the office will be open and accessible to the public.”
Goetz is a former Commonwealth Attorney who practiced in Louisville as a partner with Gordon Goetz Johnson Caldwell since 2013. He focused primarily on criminal law, small business, agriculture and corporate law.
He said he believes those focus areas are “crucial to the county attorney position but often overlooked.”
“The county attorney doesn’t just file paperwork. This office has a hand in economic development,” Goetz said. “I love this town and I want to see it continue to grow and prosper. That’s why we need someone with a background in those areas, and I have it.”
Goetz said he also wants to address the “rapidly rising” crime rates. He affirms he will be tough on crime and promote community safety by exercising the law enforcement responsibilities of the county attorney to the fullest extent.
