“Gon’ and do the 2 step then cowboy boogie; Grab your sweetheart and spin out with ’em.” So goes the hook from the viral chart-topping song The Git Up, and the artist behind it — Blanco Brown — is coming to Owensboro for Friday After 5.

Brown, who blurs the lines between Country and Hip-Hop music, will perform Aug. 19 on the Jagoe Homes Riverfront Live Stage on the Convention Center Lawn, kicking off the HydroFair weekend. The concert is free.

The Git Up — certified 11x Platinum across 3 countries — claimed the top spot in charts globally with nearly 4 billion views across social platforms. It claimed No. 1 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart for 12 weeks and was the top-selling digital Country song in the U.S. for 13 weeks — resulting in Brown being named their No. 1 Top New Country Artist for 2019.

“We had a remarkable season last year and are so honored to have Blanco Brown join us this year, along with a host of amazing bands that will be taking the stage,” said FA5 Executive Director Francine Marseille. “With the move west and a brand-new main stage, it’s more than we could have ever imagined.”

For Brown’s concert, the United Way of the Ohio Valley is joining forces with Friday After 5 to help bring awareness to local nonprofits with “The Git Up Challenge to Make A Difference” dance-off competition.

Categories along with rules will be announced soon. The winners of each category will have the chance to take the stage and open for Brown.

“Our partnership with Friday After 5 is just one example of how we can all work together to achieve a common goal: keeping our community the greatest place to live,” said Blaine Mathew, Manager of Digital Communications and Innovation for United Way of the Ohio Valley.

Friday After 5 will kick off May 20 and runs for 16 weeks. They previously announced they would be “moving west” this summer, including moving their main concert stage from the RiverPark Center to the Holiday Inn and having stages closer together. Click here for more on what to expect this season.
