Owensboro is one of four cities hosting a preliminary competition for a national talent contest held by the Inspirational Country Music Association. The winner earns a package that includes performing at the Grand Ole Opry, a professional songwriting session, and the recording of a six-song EP plus two radio releases from the project.

The contest is called the Nashville Talent Showcase, and other cities hosting preliminary competitions include Fort Worth, Texas; Vicksburg, Mississippi; and Jennings, Louisiana.

The competition in Owensboro will be the first of the four and will be held on June 16 as part of the Friday After 5 festivities. The event will include a headline performance by Todd Tilghman, winner of The Voice season 18.

The other three preliminary competitions will take place in the months following. The top two contestants from each preliminary competition will be asked to perform in the finale during the Inspirational Country Music Association Awards pre-show on March 23, 2024.

First place receives a six-song writing session with a Nashville songwriter, an EP recording of those six songs, two radio releases from that project, and membership to the Inspirational Country Music Association.

Second place is a similar prize package, but only three songs instead of six plus one radio release. Third place receives the same package for just one song.
