Spirit Halloween — the national retailer that supplies Halloween decorations, costumes, props, and accessories — is returning to Owensboro. The store will open August 1 in the former Shoe Stop in Towne Square North.

District Manager Craig Freeman said Spirit Halloween had been in Owensboro for the better part of a decade until 2019.

“Distribution lines and lack of applicants caused us to have to leave for a bit,” Freeman said. “Now we’re back at 4650 Frederica Street.”

Hours will vary throughout the season, increasing as it gets closer to Halloween. Freeman said for now they will be open “at least” 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday-Saturday and 12-6 p.m. Sunday.

“We sell costumes, home decor, collectibles, and are the leading manufacturer of animatronics,” Freeman said. “Spirit Halloween has become such a phenomenon in the past few years that we’ve been featured in memes, Jimmy Kimmel sketches, and launched our own feature film last year starring Christopher Lloyd and Rachel Leigh Cook.”

Freeman said more than 75% of their costumes are designed in-house, meaning there are even versions of licensed characters you can’t find anywhere else.

“This year we celebrate our 40th anniversary with some throwbacks to old products from the 2000s and even the ’90s,” Freeman said.
