The Owensboro Symphony Orchestra will take its Symphony Storytime program to libraries across the region this summer, introducing children to classical music through interactive storytelling.

The tour begins at 5 p.m. July 7 at the Ohio County Public Library. This summer’s featured story is In the Hall of the Mountain King, which follows a young dreamer named Peer as he embarks on an adventure into the Mountain King’s mysterious realm. Along the way, the story explores themes of courage, humility, and friendship.

Additional stops include:

  • July 10 at 10 a.m. at the McLean County Public Library.
  • Aug. 18 at 10 a.m. at the Daviess County Public Library.

The Symphony Storytime program uses books from The Story Orchestra series to introduce children to well-known classical music. Each session features a live reading paired with recordings of famous orchestral works, allowing children to hear the music as the story unfolds.

In addition to the story, members of the Owensboro Symphony’s education team will lead a music education activity, teaching children about the featured composer and answering questions about the music.

The free program is designed to be educational, interactive, and engaging for children and families while providing an introduction to classical music through storytelling.
