Dozens of children’s storybook characters will leap from the page and come to life for Storybook Breakfast on Jan. 11, at Settle Memorial United Method Church. The event raises literacy awareness and raises money for Imagination Library of Daviess County, which provides about 3,000 books every month to Daviess County children under the age of five at no charge to the recipient families.

The Daviess County chapter is part of the international Imagination Library program spearheaded through the Dollywood Foundation in Tennessee. Children are encouraged to come dressed as their favorite character, for lots of great photo opportunities.

“The Storybook Breakfast is a magical morning for those who come to meet the characters and enjoy a great meal,” says local Imagination Library Chairwoman Diane Bowers. “It’s also an excellent way for our local Imagination Library program to encourage a love of reading for children and their entire family, and to register children to receive the free books if they are not already participating.”

Food is served continuously between 8:30 – 11 a.m. and activities include: meet-and-greets with storybook characters, photograph opportunities, storytime, face painting, balloon artists, all-you-can-eat pancakes and every child may take home a free book. Local children’s authors will be featured with their books. Participants will have the chance to talk with the authors, and purchase their books as well. The cost to attend is $7 per person over the age of two if purchased at any Owensboro Independence Bank location or at the door the day of the event.
