Owensboro Health joins Aubrey’s Song Foundation as a Premier Sponsor for its upcoming event, Pickin’ for a Cause: Keeping Aubrey’s Song Alive! on September 22 at the Bluegrass Hall of Fame & Museum. Pickin’ for a Cause is a community awareness event to educate the public about the seriousness of eating disorders. The event will include a silent auction, dinner, and live music from musicians Justin Cole, Cam Thompson, Toy Heart, Chris Joslin, and Randy Lanham and the Possum Pickers. All proceeds from this event will benefit Aubrey’s Song Foundation for Eating Disorders, a 501 (c)(3) organization, and area families affected by eating disorders.
“We are thrilled that Owensboro Health is joining us in this effort to promote prevention and early intervention of this debilitating mental health illness” stated Board President, Michelle Mayfield. “Pickin’ for a Cause will offer a fun evening and allows Owensboro Health, our other sponsors, and our guests to play a role in offering HOPE to those affected by eating disorders.”
Pickin’ for a Cause aims to raise $30,000 to fund Aubrey’s Song’s new Family and Patient Advocacy Program; a program designed to guide families through the challenges of finding treatment and supporting their loved ones struggling with an eating disorder. It also will support the continuation of a family support group and the start of patient support groups. Tickets are $75; tables of eight are $550. Eating disorders can impact anyone, no matter their size, race, gender, sexual orientation, age, social economic status, or ethnicity. 900,000 Kentuckians suffer from an eating disorder with 29,800+ experiencing life threatening conditions. Kentucky has no inpatient or residential treatment facilities, and only one outpatient treatment center in Louisville.
