Owensboro Church of Christ’s Homecoming on Nov. 13, 2022, is a long-awaited celebration of the renovation of the building’s auditorium and foyer. When the project began, its completion would have coincided with the 60th anniversary of the congregation at this location. But, just as the construction began, COVID shut down everything and prolonged completion.

“We are excited to have former members and friends join in our Homecoming and experience the wonderful upgrades to the auditorium and enlargement of the foyer to allow more space to visit,” said Minister Jimmy Bunch. “It looks like an entirely different place — much more inviting.”

Built in 1960 on the present location at 3300 Highway 144, the new focal point of the front of auditorium is a back-lit cross, modern lighting and sound equipment, projection screens, and new carpet and seating.

“The improved acoustics is making a tremendous difference in the richness and tone of congregational singing, since we have a cappella music,” explained Bunch.

The church, which is non-denominational, dates back to 1938 meeting in several locations before building on “Hwy 60 East” renamed “Hwy 144.”

Bunch has seen considerable development through his time with the church beginning as youth minister in 1989 and pulpit minister since 2002.

“There have been several additions to the building, but this has been the largest building project the congregation has undertaken,” said Bunch.

On Nov. 13, the Homecoming service will be at the usual meeting time of 10:30 a.m. with Sunday School at 9:30 a.m. For more information, contact the church office at (270) 684-3406 or visit https://owensborochurchofchrist.com. The Sunday morning worship service is live streamed on YouTube, which can be found on the church Facebook page.
