Aleris is closing the Lewisport mill in response to their major automotive customers announcing temporary production shutdowns, coupled with uncertainty in other markets. This closure will last from March 30-April 13.

Director of Communication Jason Saragian said this closure follows the temporary shutdowns of several major companies in the automotive industry, two more of which announced temporary closures on Wednesday.

“We’re making the difficult decision to temporarily suspend production,” he said. “We’re doing what we can for everyone affected by this. We want to get them back to work quickly.”

The employees at Aleris Rolled Products are very dedicated and committed to their jobs, Saragian said, and the company is doing everything it can to “minimize the impact” on those who will be out of work during that time.

“We will remain in close contact with our automotive customers in the coming days so we can ensure we are back up and running at Lewisport as soon as possible,” he said.
