The Owensboro City Commission appointed two new volunteer members to the Owensboro Human Relations Commission during a regular meeting Tuesday.

Veena Sallan and Heather Yeiser were appointed to fill two open positions at OHRC that expire Jan. 1, 2022.

The commission also had the first reading of a budget amendment that will provide money to the Senior Community Center of Owensboro-Daviess County.

Commissioners also designated Owensboro Chief of Police Arthur Ealum to provide oversight on a memorandum of agreement between the Owensboro-Daviess County consolidated 911 central dispatch agency and the FBI’s National Crime Information Center and Criminal Justice Information Services Division.

Communication from the public and elected officials were not permitted during Tuesday’s meeting to abide by President Donald Trump’s suggestion that no more than 10 people should gather in one place during the coronavirus pandemic.

“The City of Owensboro has continued to monitor the ever-changing progress of COVID-19 virus across the country. It is paramount to remember that as up to date there have been no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Owensboro,” Mayor Tom Watson said. “I ask that you stay calm and stay informed. Rely on the experts for advice. I encourage you to be self-reliant and not government reliant to keep you safe.”
