Some of the major employers in Owensboro who have hundreds to thousands of employees have reported changes to their workflow due to COVID-19.

U.S. Bank, which has more than 1,800 employees according to the Greater Owensboro Economic Development Corporation, is incorporating job rotation and work from home strategies for many of its employees.

“We’ve implemented actions to help minimize the potential impact of the virus on our employees, customers and operations,” said Evan Lapiska, vice president of public affairs and corporate communications with U.S. Bank.

Some of these actions include implementing continuity plans, which is the process of creating systems of prevention and recovery to deal with potential threats to a company.

“We are activating continuity plans across all of our business activities to ensure continuity of critical processes, including acting on plans to transfer work, relocate employees and ensure work from home access for our employees,” Lapiska said.

Alorica, a worldwide customer experience provider with 230 employees in Owensboro, is also migrating to remote work.

“We are aggressively transitioning to a temporary work-at-home model for applicable employees,” said Sunny Yu, with Alorica corporate communications and public relations. “The impact has been similar here as we’re seeing everywhere—people have questions and concerns.”

In an effort to ensure a safe work environment, Yu said Alorica has initiated protective plans such as focused cleaning on high-touch points and common areas–door handles, vending machines and restrooms for example.

She said the company has placed restrictions on non-essential visitors, are practicing social distancing and has revised its travel guides.

“We will continue to be vigilant and proactive as we adapt quickly to evolving circumstances during these unprecedented times, for our employees and our business,” Yu said.

Dart Polymers, Inc., which has 180 employees producing food and beverage containers, remains open.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has identified the food and beverage packaging industry as “essential critical infrastructure” during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Therefore, all Dart facilities remain open at this time, including our Owensboro plant,” said Margo Burrage, director of corporate communications at Dart Container Corporation.

Many of its customers are in healthcare, restaurants, grocery stores, correctional institutions, among others.

“Dart is glad we’re able to provide packaging that keeps food and drinks sanitary and safe and to support essential services, organizations and industries during this unprecedented pandemic,” Burrage said.
