Michael Feinstein and Tina Guo in symphony’s 55th season

From Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 1. to “The Avengers” and “Batman” or Michael Feinstein singing broadway to Tina Guo’s fierce cello performance, the variety in the Owensboro Symphony Orchestra’s 2020-21 lineup can only be matched by the diversity of the audiences’ tastes.

The symphony’s 55th season is a celebration of the classics, film and popular music.

“No one in the country has this diverse of a program or guest artist lineup as the Owensboro Symphony,” Conductor Troy Quinn said. “And that’s a testament to the community that’s willing to listen to these types of different genres that are really thriving for these types of music.”

In an announcement Friday, the symphony released its next season’s show.

Concert on the Lawn:
This free annual concert in its 33rd year is presented on Kentucky Wesleyan College’s front lawn at 7 p.m. Aug. 15.

The Greatest Show on Earth: A Tribute to the Circus features an evening of circus-themed selections for the whole family from “The Greatest Showman,” “A Little Night Music” and a finale from “The Lion King.” Families can picnic and enjoy the music.

Opening Night:
The show features five-time Grammy-nominated and multi-platinum selling pianist and vocalist Michael Feinstein. Opening Night takes place at 7 p.m. Oct. 24 in the RiverPark Center’s Cannon Hall.

Feinstein is best known for his interpretation of the “Great American Songbook,” performing classics from the stage and screen. His 200-plus shows a year have included performances at Carnegie Hall, Sydney Opera House, the Hollywood Bowl, as well as the White House and Buckingham Palace.

Home for the Holidays:
The annual holiday concert that promises a festive celebration is at 7 p.m. Dec. 12.

Conductor Troy Quinn and the Owensboro Symphony with present a concert to mesmerize listeners with traditional favorites and fresh new works, including selections from “The Nutcracker,” “Scrooge” and “White Christmas.” The audience is invited to sing along while the Owensboro Symphony Chorus leads in a heartwarming medley of holiday favorites.

A Night at the Oscars:
Ring in the New Year with Oscar Night at the Symphony at 7 p.m. Jan. 30, 2021.

The symphony will roll out the red carpet and transport audiences right onto Hollywood Blvd. as they perform songs from Oscar-nominated and Oscar-winning movies such as “The Godfather” and “La La Land.” Guest artist Eric Rigler, the world’s most recorded piper, will be playing favorites from “The Lord of the Rings” to “Titanic” as the Symphony’s the featured soloist.

SUPERHEROES:
Quinn and the symphony promises a show that’s a battle of monumental classics at 7 p.m. March 6, 2021.

The show will present super-heroic selections from “Batman” to “The Avengers” and Gustav Mahler’s “Titan Symphony No. 1.”

Season Finale:
Guest artist cellist Tina Guo will close out the show Epic Ending at 7 p.m. April 18, 2021.

Guo is known for her unique genre-crossing style. She is one of the most recorded solo cellists of all time and can be heard on hundreds of blockbuster film, television and game soundtracks. Guo will be featured as the soloist for the Saint-Saëns Cello Concerto No.1, which is a breathtaking touchstone of romantic music. The show will also feature the music of conductor Robert Schumann and Led Zeppelin’s iconic “Stairway to Heaven” and more.
