Misty Miller was sworn in Tuesday morning as Daviess County’s new district judge for Division 1. She replaces Judge Lisa Jones, who was elected to serve as a circuit court judge.

“I’m really excited and honored, and I can’t wait to get started,” Miller said. “There are some things I hope to do. I’d like to streamline processes and keep mental health going. Let’s see how it works.”

Miller’s family members and colleagues witnessed Judge David Payne performed the swearing during the private ceremony.

Miller was appointed by Gov. Andy Beshear, beating out two other nominees for the position — James Nicholas Payne and Jason James Pfeil, both of Owensboro.

Both Miller and Payne have filed to run for the District Court judgeship in the November 2020 election.

Miller said she believes this interim period will help her prepare for the upcoming election.

“I’m tickled with the support I’ve had,” Miller said. “I’m going to do a very good job for this community.”
