The Owensboro Police Department is investigating two separate armed robberies that happened within a four-hour span Tuesday night near the downtown area.

OPD has arrested an Owensboro man and a Utica man in connection with one of the robberies.

Layton C. Turner and Jaquarius K. Mapp, both 21, were booked Wednesday into the Daviess County Jail on a charge of first-degree robbery.

Police were dispatched about 7:43 p.m. Tuesday in the 700 block of Poindexter Street, according to an OPD news release.

A man told officers that he had been robbed at gunpoint by two men, who stole his wallet and cell phone.

He said he knew one of the robbers.

OPD later responded to another armed-robbery call shortly before 11 p.m. Tuesday at a gas station, 1801 Triplett Street.

A man said that he had been robbed at gunpoint inside the convenience store by two individuals wearing dark clothing, according to the release.

He said the robbers stole cash from the register and took off.

Anyone with any information about the incident is encouraged to call the Owensboro Police Department at 270-687-8888 or leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers at 270-687-8484.
