Owensboro Public Schools announced closures for in-person classes for the next three weeks, starting Monday. These decisions were based on a recommendation that all K-12 schools in Kentucky close made by Gov. Andy Beshear and KDE Acting Commissioner Kevin Brown.

The city school district will cease in-person classes until April 6.

OPS will be incorporating a nontraditional instruction (NTI) plan that will allow the district to provide 10 days of instruction to students.

“We will not have to make these days up at the end of the school year,” said Interim Superintendent Matthew Constant.

This measure allows the OPS district to provide breakfast and lunch meals to anyone under the age of 18 while the district is closed, Constant added.

“Those meals will be provided at various sites throughout the city and that information will be available on our website Friday,” he said. “Meals be provided March 30-April 3 due to Spring Break.”
