Friday After 5 organizers are hoping the coronavirus pandemic will have left Owensboro in time for their first event of the summer.

The 2020 FA5 season is scheduled to run May 22 through Sept. 4. A full schedule will be available in April.

“As of right now we’re still on schedule,” said Starr Nalley, interim executive director. “We’re still trying to stay on schedule because I think people are going to need Friday After 5.”

She said the team of volunteers and music producers are continuing to plan and will hopefully be able to make FA5 happen after the quarantine rolls over.

Nalley said she’s hoping that the possibility of a COVID-19 extended stay in town won’t force a cancellation of the show entirely.

“We’re trying not to cancel the whole thing,” she said. “If we have to postpone the first two (weekends) and start in June then we will do that. During this quarantine, we have seen the community really come together.”

The ultimate decision will rest on city, state and federal recommendations as the coronavirus pandemic unfolds, she said.

Friday After 5 began in 1997 with four concerts and grew into a 16-week signature riverfront festival for the entire tri-state area.

“Our hope is that after the quarantine we are then able to do our part by giving the community the opportunity to spend time with friends and family on the Riverfront,” Nalley said.
