Owensboro natives John and Jordan Loucks are using their positive experiences with coffee to do something positive for others. As co-owners of Stave Coffee Company, the Loucks hope their Guatemalan coffee can bring people together in the same way it did for them.

The Loucks recently opened up shop on Stave Coffee Company, though they won’t be operating from a coffee shop for now. Instead, they have been doing personal deliveries for those seeking their high-quality coffee until the COVID-19 epidemic calms down.

“We don’t associate the virus with the startup of our business,” John said. “The timing was a bit [unfortunate], but we decided we could either sit idly by until June or July, or we could go ahead get started and do the best we can.”

Unfortunate timing aside, John and Jordan said they have big plans for Stave Coffee Company, and they were driven to create the business upon realizing how important a component coffee had been for them, and so many others, over the years.

John and Jordan said they’ve seen how coffee has the ability to build relationships and bring people together. They wanted to be able to do that for others, they said.

With a variety of blends, styles and flavors, it’s the kind of drink that can start a conversation, perk someone up and, all the while, give business owners like the Loucks’ the chance to be creative with their product.

“We wanted to create a product that we’re proud of,” John said. “We’ll experiment with different countries [of origin] and blends.”

Right now, the Loucks are only roasting and distributing Stave Company Coffee products to those who make personal orders, but John and Jordan said their goal is to distribute their product as widely as possible.

Connections are an important part of that, John said. As a graduate of the University of Alabama, and Jordan from the University of Kentucky, the two said their ties with those in other states will be significant in getting the name of their coffee company out there.

Stave Coffee Company will also be partnering up with local businesses, such as Brew Bridge, who will use their coffee to brew different beers. The Loucks’ said that will be another important focus of theirs — building relationships with businesses in Daviess County and selling their product through local retailers and suppliers.

But until then, John and Jordan said they are more than happy to continue delivering their coffee to those who, not only want to try something new and high-quality but support local businesses like theirs.

The Loucks also assure that each delivery will be made safely and carefully and in compliance with CDC recommendations of social distancing.

“A lot of peoples’ favorite coffee spots aren’t open right now, so it’s been fun to interact with people because the interaction is so limited right now,” Jordan said.
