Alicia Storm has been named the next principal at Newton Parrish Elementary School. She will replace long-time principal Steve Bratcher, who was named the district’s Chief Academic Officer last month.

Storm has served at Wayland Elementary school in Ohio County for the past 14 years — the last 10 as head principal. She was the assistant principal of the school her first four years there.

However, Storm is no stranger to Owensboro Public Schools, as she began her career as a Spanish teacher at Owensboro Middle and Owensboro High schools following her college graduation.

“I have always wanted to come back to the OPS family,” Storm said. “Many years ago, I had the opportunity to explore leadership opportunities in another district, but have always wanted to come back to the tradition of the OPS family.”

Storm earned a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish teaching from the University of Southern Indiana and a Masters degree in education administration and Rank I from Western Kentucky University. She also spent time studying abroad at Universidad Madero in Mexico.

“Newton Parrish has a history of being a successful school,” Storm said. “I look forward to partnering with the community and building new relationships to continue that success in the future.”

OPS superintendent Matthew Constant said he thinks Storm’s experience as an elementary principal for several years will make the transition back to OPS smooth.

We are happy to welcome Alicia back home to OPS,” Constant said. “I am excited to see her passion for the individual student. Her personal mission fits so nicely with what Newton Parrish was looking for and what the entire district seeks as well.”

Storm will officially take over the role of principal at Newton Parrish on July 1.
