A vehicle struck the front side of Rolling Pin Pastry Shop around 4:50 p.m., tearing down part of the wall and breaking some of the windows before leaving the scene. According to the Owensboro Police Department, there were no injuries.

According to OPD, the driver has been charged as of approximately 9:15 p.m.

Employee Jordan Saalwaechter said he was the only person inside the building at the time of the incident. He said a customer had just arrived to pick up the last order and witnessed the crash from the parking lot.

“It was pure silence interrupted by the loudest explosion,” Saalwaechter said. “I instinctively covered my head and my knees buckled at the sound equipment shifting and falling over. There’s the moment in shock where it’s surreal, but at the same time it was comforting. A lot of good people dropped what they were doing to run to stores before they closed at 6 and bring equipment to inspect the building. It was truly a collective effort and we’re grateful that we have that camaraderie.”
