Brescia University is developing a master of science in speech-language pathology, a program that is a candidate for accreditation by the Council on Academic Accreditation.

This is a “pre-accreditation” status with the CAA, awarded to developing or emerging programs for a maximum period of five years.

The program will be offered exclusively online, making it unique among other speech-language pathology programs across the country. Brescia has been expanding its graduate program offerings over the last few years, including the creation of a masters in clinical psychology and updated master of business administration programs.

“At Brescia University we are always looking for opportunities to serve both our students and our community,” said The Rev. Larry Hostetter, BU President. “This degree program does both by giving our undergraduate students a readily accessible graduate program and by providing our community with much-needed speech language practitioners.”

To maintain the candidacy, Brescia will continue to evolve the program and stay within compliance standards set by the CAA.

Sagan Storm, Associate Director of Graduate Admissions, said the staff is thrilled that the program has been approved for candidacy.

Storm said they anticipate theur first cohort for August 2021 and have a set application deadline of May 15.

Graduates from CAA accredited programs are eligible for the clinical fellow after graduation. If the clinical fellow is completed successfully, graduates can then earn ASHA’s Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC), which is considered the “gold standard” of speech-language pathology licensing in the United States.

Storm said a successful candidate will have a completed communication science and disorders undergraduate with grades of A or B in all major courses. There is no GRE or GMAT required.

Students can apply for the program at brescia.edu/apply.
