OCTC Hosting STEAM and Level Up camps for High School Students

Owensboro Community & Technical College is hosting a STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics) Camp for high school students June 7-8, as well as a Level Up Camp from June 21-July 30.

STEAM CAMP

Camp projects include building a weather station, programming a pixel pet, programming a microcontroller for sound, lights and motion, programming a robot and drawing with a variety of unique materials.

The camp will be held at OCTC’s Downtown Campus, 1501 Frederica Street and the Main Campus at 4800 New Hartford Road.

The camp is funded in part by a grant received through the Alcoa Foundation.

Level Up Camp

OCTC’s Level Up Camp is designed to be a summer bridge program to help students transition to college and persist to a second year.

The camp will meet on Mondays and Wednesdays from 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. and successful participants will earn a free college credit hour for completing the program. Upon successful completion of the program the participants will become eligible for an OCTC scholarship up to $1,500 for the fall semester.

OCTC’s Level Up Camp will provide students with an overview of campus services, success strategies and career options. Utilizing a STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics) approach, faculty from all the employment sectors will provide students with background on the skills and knowldege needed to be successful in specific areas.
